I Painted Something Red?!!

Ever since I started painting furniture, I have admired pictures of pieces that were painted red.  But, I never had the 'courage' to do it myself.  I even went so far as to pick up a sample of Cece Caldwell's Traverse City Cherry Red about a year ago but could never figure out what to use it on.  So when I recently picked up this mid-century chair, I finally decided to try it out. 


Here's what it looked like when I brought it home. (Unfortunately... or fortunately?) I think the auctioneer where I bought it is beginning to realize that I'll take home any stray chair because he gave me a super deal for this one and a bunch of others that day. 

The hardest part of this makeover was finding fabric to go with the colour.  Finally, I happened upon this happy print at Fabricland the last week. 



I used clear and dark wax on this chair, because I found without the dark wax deepening the colour, it was a little too 'pinky' for my taste.

    Gorgeous!! I am in love with red!!!!!!! Good thing it goes with the aqua that I love so much - at least in small doses LOL

    I have a red rocking chair on my back porch. To me, all rocking chairs should be red. :o) I also painted my son's little toddler rocking chair red. It's a family heirloom & as soon as I inherited it I changed it to red. I love it.

    I actually bought a small red cabinet...then I sanded it and painted it Glidden's Preservation Plum! Great choice on fabric.

    I think you did a wonderful job! Applause.. applause for having the courage to go with your gut feel. Great tip on using clear and dark wax on colors such as this. I can see it only enhanced it further!

    I L O V E red furniture. Right now, I only have 1 red dinint room chair ( the others are blue and yellow), but Thursday I hope to have a red cabinet.

    It's perfect!
    I have done red, but sometimes it is a gamble with the coverage and you get stuck needing to do extra coats.

    Nice job! I love to do a red piece once in a while. I just did an upholstered bench in Ruby Red - definitely fun.
