A Kitchen Update

You may remember a long time ago I talked about how we were going to be working on our kitchen.  Well, it has been rather slow going.  My husband was working an odd shift, a mixture of nights and afternoons and found it hard to find time to work on it with me.  But now he's back to days and I've been pushing to work on it.  We were working hard on the weekend to put in the countertops.  My father in law and brother in law spent some time over here helping.  They were a great help and my husband wouldn't have been able to get them in without them.  Those countertops are heavy!

We decided to go with the butcherblock countertops from Ikea.  We ended up buying them from the States... we don't live far from the detroit border and it only took about an hour to get to Ikea.

Our kitchen looked like this on the weekend....Aren't you just totally digging the 1980's wallpaper that we discovered when we took out the dishwasher?  I am thinking about trying to find a match for the rest of the room....

We chose a good weekend to have our kitchen torn apart though!  Saturday night was an Easter dinner with my husband's extended family.  Sunday morning was an easter fellowship breakfast at our church, and we had dinner Sunday with my husband's family.  So thankfully I didn't have to cook any meals without a sink.

After they cut the counter, it took me several hours the next day to clean up all the saw dust.  There was piles and piles and piles of it!  And dust coating everything.

The doors are almost done.  The ones over the sink are hung.  I still need to choose hardware and figure out what to do for a backsplash?  Any suggestions for something easy?

I came across your blog today and was quite excited to see the outcome of your kitchen makeover. I haven't been able to find any posts about it after this one though... maybe I just missed it. Would you mind mentioning here what date you posted the "After" pictures on your blog? I would love to see them!

    Thanks!!!
